YEAR 10 BOYS SOCCER CCC KNOCKOUT

The third round clash saw a great contest with Edmund Rice College (die Gegner). We started well with Peter Gaffney beating two players on the left before crossing for Ryan Freeme to turn with a defender on his back and slip an excellently taken goal past the keeper. (Die 1-0 Führung). For some reason our defence then got the yips. Firstly, Steven Mancini cleared off the line after a scramble. Soon after Edmund Rice (Schule) scored when the team decided it wasn’t important to mark players during a corner (1-1). Andreas “Gerd Muller” Kimpel put us back in the lead (2-1) after chasing a great ball by Daniel Knust that everyone else had given up. Andreas stretched full length to take the ball away from the goalkeepers fingertips for the 2-1 lead at half time. Jacob Timpano and Dez Giraldi, who were rested after slight injuries, were keen to come into action in the second half to ensure out victory. However, the second half didn’t pan out that way and Edmund Rice constantly bombarded our defence and goal with some excellent long passes and soccer. Nathan Kondakis made a great save from a free kick and another great save later which fortunatley the defence didn’t clear for Edmund Rice to draw level in the second half (2-2).

The match went into extra time with the golden goal rule after we were lucky to stay in the game. Extra time saw the onslaught continue before a wonderful long ball by Joshus Quirk to Dez Giraldi who beat a player and laid off an excellent square ball for acob in two touches. Jacob rounded the keeper easily before diving the ball home for 3-2 victory in the last 30 seconds. A very close and desperate escape against an excellent Edmund Rice Team. Good gutsy effort lads.
